These banana oatmeal cookies are easy to make and taste amazing. Made from just rolled oats, bananas and chocolate chips, they’re a healthier sweet treat that’s soft, chewy and full of flavor.
This post is sponsored by NOW Foods; all opinions are my own.

Yes—cookies for breakfast! It might sound indulgent, but these banana oatmeal breakfast cookies are wholesome enough to grab for a quick morning meal. If mornings are hectic, these gluten-free and dairy-free cookies are a convenient grab-and-go option.

Breakfast Cookies with Banana and Oats

I like to make a batch during weekend food prep. They’re made with simple, wholesome ingredients: NOW Foods rolled oats, ripe bananas (the riper the better), pecans and chocolate chips. You can cut back or skip the chocolate chips to reduce sugar, but I think chocolate makes everything better. They take only a few minutes to mix and about 15 minutes to bake.

They’re great not just for breakfast, but also as an after-school snack, a lunchbox treat, or a late-night sweet fix.

Ingredients:
– 3 medium bananas
– 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
– 1/3 cup chocolate chips
– 1/4 cup nuts (pecans or walnuts are my favorites)
– 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
– Dash of cinnamon
– Pinch of salt

I love using organic rolled oats from NOW Foods. They help give the cookies a chewy texture and add fiber, protein and iron to kick off your morning. Fiber helps digestion, keeps you full, and some studies suggest oats can help lower cholesterol.

This recipe is perfect for using overripe bananas—no food waste here. The riper the banana, the sweeter the cookies. Nuts add flavor and a nice crunch, and you can swap in any favorite nut or even stir in dried fruit. It’s a flexible recipe that adapts to different tastes and diets.

One of my go-to places for pantry staples like oats, nuts and oils is NOW Foods. They offer a wide range of products, from food and sports nutrition to beauty items and essential oils, all at good prices. Use code AMBER for 20% off your order at nowfoods.com.

How to make the cookies:
– Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
– Mash the bananas in a medium bowl with a fork until smooth.
– Add the rolled oats, vanilla, a dash of cinnamon (about 1/4 tsp) and a pinch of salt. Mix well.
– Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts.
– Scoop heaping tablespoons of the batter onto the lined baking sheet. Flatten each scoop into a cookie shape by hand—these don’t spread much while baking.
– Bake for about 15 minutes, until firm and golden. Let cool on the pan for 3 minutes, then move to a rack to cool completely. Enjoy!

Storage:
Store the cookies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. I like warming them in the microwave for a few seconds for a soft, gooey treat.
You can also freeze them for up to 3 months—remove as much air as possible from the container. Thaw overnight in the fridge.

There’s nothing like hitting the road with your people for sunshine, adventure, and a break from the daily grind. We recently took the family to sunny Florida, and it was exactly what we needed—so many great memories made. From the wild Everglades to snorkeling in the Keys, every moment felt special. And the best part? We did it all in the stylish, ultra-safe Mazda CX-90.

🐊 Everglades Alligator Farm: A Wild Adventure
One of our first stops was the Everglades Alligator Farm, the oldest alligator farm in South Florida. With more than 2,000 alligators, the place offers thrilling airboat rides through the Everglades that give you a real sense of the ecosystem. The airboat is fast, loud, and full of adrenaline—the 360° turns had us laughing (and a little wet), and the scenery was incredible. The kids loved the alligator shows and even got to hold a baby gator. It was both fun and educational for the whole family. The farm also rescues nuisance alligators that would otherwise be removed from the wild, which made the visit feel even more meaningful. Highly recommend for anyone looking for adventure and wildlife—10/10.

Sun, Gators & Coastal Adventures: A Family Road Trip in the Mazda CX-90

🌊 Silent World Dive Center: Snorkeling in Paradise
We headed to Key Largo and tried snorkeling with Silent World Dive Center for the first time, and it was amazing. We boarded their 51-foot snorkel-only boat and explored North America’s only living coral barrier reef. The water was crystal clear and full of life—colorful fish, coral, conches, barracudas, jellyfish, and even a shark. We also saw the famous Christ of the Abyss statue. Snorkeling has a little learning curve, but once you get your bearings it’s peaceful and awe-inspiring. The kids did great, so it’s a fantastic option for families. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and even provided reef-safe sunscreen to protect the ecosystem. If you get seasick, take Dramamine—apparently it works best if you start 24 hours before, according to the captain. I felt a bit queasy, but it was worth it.

🏖️ Hollywood Beach: Sun, Sand, and Boardwalk Strolls
To finish the trip we visited Hollywood Beach. The palm-lined boardwalk has that classic Florida charm. We walked the beach, people-watched, enjoyed live music, sampled beachside food, and let the kids run on the soft, white sand. It was the perfect mix of chill time and activity.

🚗 Mazda CX-90: The Ultimate Family Travel Companion
Our MVP of the trip was the Mazda CX-90. As a mom, I need a car that works with our family, and this one checked all the boxes. It earned the 2024 Top Safety Pick title, which made me feel much more relaxed driving in busy or unfamiliar areas.

Family-friendly features we loved:
– Seats up to 8 passengers, with room for coolers and all the beach gear (yes, even pool noodles)
– Easy third-row access—no acrobatics needed to get kids in and out
– Rear-seat USB ports—kept the kids charged and entertained
– Hands-free power liftgate—a lifesaver when your arms are full
– Quiet cabin—minimal road noise meant a calmer ride for everyone

Advanced safety that had my back:
Mazda’s i-Activsense® package includes:
– Adaptive cruise control
– Lane-keep assist
– Blind spot monitoring
– Smart brake support
These features gave me real peace of mind on highways and unfamiliar roads. The plug-in hybrid option is a nice bonus for better fuel economy and a smaller environmental footprint—something our family appreciates.

Final Thoughts
Florida gave us sun, wildlife encounters, ocean adventures, and a ton of sweet memories. If you want a stylish, safe, and family-friendly vehicle for your next trip, the Mazda CX-90 is totally worth the hype. Learn more about the CX-90’s family-focused features on Mazda’s site.

Did you know Botox is the most popular cosmetic procedure in the U.S.? I’m excited to share my Botox experience and answer common questions about what it is, how it works, and why you might consider it. I’ve posted lots of before-and-after photos, and every time I mention Botox on Instagram I get tons of questions—so here are all the details!

Where to go and who should inject you
One of the most important decisions is choosing a qualified facility and injector. Do your research and pick a place that follows best practices and uses well-trained nurse practitioners. I’ve had Botox several times at REJUV AVE. in Fenton, Michigan. The clinic is beautiful, clean, the staff trains regularly, and their customer service is excellent. If you’re in Michigan, I highly recommend them.

Botox Basics: Before-and-After Photos Included

What they do at REJUV AVE.
REJUV AVE. takes time to assess your skin and goals. They use VISIA Skin Analysis, which looks about 3mm beneath the skin to reveal issues like pigmentation, pore size, bacteria, sun damage, texture, and wrinkles. VISIA also estimates your “TruSkin” age and helps build a personalized skincare plan based on your results. It’s useful because you can track improvements over time.

What to expect at your appointment
During the consultation you’ll talk about your concerns and where you’d like Botox. I was asked to make expressions (smile, surprise, scowl) so the injector could see the lines I wanted treated. They marked the injection points and then did the injections. The whole visit was quick—under 30 minutes from start to finish.

(Note: my skin looks red in some photos because I had an IPL treatment before my Botox.)

How Botox works
Botox contains onabotulinumtoxinA, a neurotoxin that relaxes the small facial muscles that cause expression lines. By reducing muscle activity, Botox prevents existing lines from getting worse and can be used preventatively.

How soon will I see results?
Some people notice changes in a few days, but it can take up to two weeks to see the full results. On average, expect to see the final effect about 10–14 days after treatment.

How long does Botox last?
Results usually last about three to four months.

How much does Botox cost?
At REJUV AVE. Botox currently costs $13 per unit. The number of units you need depends on the areas treated.

Is Botox safe? What are the risks?
Botox has been used for over 30 years and millions of treatments are done each year. It’s very safe when performed by a trained injector. Side effects are usually minimal, and experienced providers greatly reduce the chance of issues like an overly “frozen” look.

Before and after results
I’ve shared before-and-after photos that show a big reduction in my crow’s feet and forehead lines. My results look natural but make a noticeable difference—especially on my forehead, crow’s feet, and the area between my brows (the glabellar or “frown” lines). I used about 35 units to treat those areas.

Where can Botox be used?
Botox can treat wrinkles and expression lines on the face, neck, or even some body areas. It relaxes muscles that cause frowning, squinting, eyebrow raising, and other expressions. Common treatment areas include:
– Forehead lines
– Drooping brows
– Glabellar (“frown”) lines
– Crow’s feet
– Nasalis (“bunny”) lines
– Lip flip (turned-in upper lip)
– Gummy smile
– Dimpled chin
– Overdeveloped masseter muscle
– Platysmal bands

Does Botox hurt?
Injections are generally not painful. You may feel slight pressure or a small pinch, but it’s usually very tolerable—even if you’re not a fan of needles.

Will I bruise?
Some bruising is possible. I take arnica for several days before and after treatments and it helps reduce bruising. When I do bruise it’s usually mild and easy to cover with makeup. I recommend getting Botox a few weeks before any big event so there’s time for full results and any bruising to fade.

If you’re in Southeast Michigan and looking for a med spa, I highly recommend REJUV AVE. I’ve been going there for years for laser treatments, Botox, and Hydrafacials, and I love their staff. Follow their social media for giveaways and promotions.

Disclosure: I received complimentary services at REJUV AVE.

I’m so happy it’s finally fall! I love the season — the fashion, the cooler weather, and the chance to refresh my wardrobe and try new looks. With the kids back in school, I have a little more time for myself, and the crisp air always gives me energy. Fall is my favorite time to practice a little self-care before the holiday rush. For me, a few things always help me feel my best: comfortable shoes, clothes that fit well, clear vision, and confidence.

Embrace Fall: Makeovers & Takeovers

Here are a few new products I’ve been loving that are perfect for a seasonal refresh:

Earth Brand Shoes
I’ve owned several pairs of Earth shoes and haven’t been disappointed. This season I picked up the Sparta Boots in cinnamon — they’re the ideal boot for leggings and skinny jeans. The color is beautiful and they’re incredibly comfortable. If shoes aren’t comfortable, I won’t wear them, no matter how cute they are — these passed that test easily. The side zipper makes them simple to put on and take off, and the soft leather lining adds extra comfort. Plus, Earth Brand donates a tree through Trees.org for every pair purchased.

Maidenform Sexy Shapewear Strapless Convertible Body Briefer
This arrived at the perfect time. Lingerie that fits well and feels good really finishes an outfit. The Maidenform strapless convertible body briefer smooths my tummy and waist and helps create an hourglass shape. I wore it under a fitted spaghetti-strap jumper (it comes with removable and convertible straps, which is great for different outfits) and it was so flattering. It stayed in place, gently cinched everything in, and the push-up pads were a nice bonus.

Aveo Hello
I’ve worn contacts for nearly 20 years, and they can get expensive. While I enjoy wearing glasses sometimes, contacts work better for my active lifestyle. I recently tried Aveo Hello, a monthly contact lens subscription, and I love how easy and affordable it is. It costs less than $1 a day and includes free shipping. Their lenses offer clear HD vision, all-day hydration, and UV protection. Getting started is simple — you can use your current prescription or get a new one using your smartphone. Right now you can get your first month free (30 pairs of lenses). Visit their website for details.

Summer’s Eve: Lavender + Chamomile Cleansing Wash and Coconut Water Cleansing Cloths
With cool mornings and hot afternoons during this Indian summer, I’ve been leaning on these products to feel fresh. The Lavender + Chamomile Cleansing Wash smells great and is perfect after a run or a tough yoga session. The scent is relaxing, the formula is gentle, and it doesn’t leave any residue. When a shower isn’t possible, the individually wrapped Coconut Water cleansing cloths are perfect for my purse, carry-on, or gym bag. They help me feel confident while I’m running from one thing to the next — which is key when you’re trying a new look.

What’s your favorite fall fashion trend?

Running is one of my favorite workouts for many reasons. It keeps you in shape, eases stress, and helps with weight loss. I also love that you can run almost anywhere, with very little gear, making it easy for lots of people to try.

For many, a 5k is the first race they attempt. I remember feeling nervous and intimidated before my first 5k, but it was so much fun and I learned a lot. There’s a reason people get hooked on running: the thrill of racing, the “runner’s high” after a good effort, and the boost of confidence from reaching your goals.

Ready to Run a 5K? Practical Tips for Your First Race

Starting your first 5k can feel overwhelming if you don’t know where to begin. The tips below will help you feel more prepared and confident.

Tips for Your First 5k

Warm up and cool down
Getting your body ready before a run matters. Don’t skip a warm-up—do some light stretching and a 5-minute easy warm-up to prepare your muscles and mind. This helps reduce tightness and prevent pain during the run. After your workout, cool down with a 2-minute walk and some simple stretches to bring your heart rate down and avoid dizziness.

Practice short distances
If you’re new to running, don’t jump straight into a full 5k. Start with shorter runs under two miles or aim to run at a steady pace for 30 minutes, then slowly increase your distance. Many running programs and apps can help you build a plan that fits your goals and fitness level.

Build endurance
Once you’ve handled shorter runs, work on endurance. Interval training—mixing short bursts of faster running with recovery periods—can boost stamina and improve cardiovascular fitness, making longer runs feel easier.

Anchor your run
Pick a pace or distance to focus on for each session. Having a clear target helps your body and mind know what to expect and trains you for race conditions.

Find an accountability partner
Running with someone else makes it easier to stick to your plan. Find a friend training for a 5k and set goals together—knowing someone is counting on you helps you show up.

Set goals
Set a few small goals and one bigger goal. Hitting milestones keeps you motivated and gives you things to celebrate along the way.

On 5k race day

Start slow
It’s tempting to sprint at the start, but going out too fast can burn you out. Use a smartwatch to track pace, or follow a race pacer to stay on target.

Hydrate
Drink plenty of water in the days before the race. Avoid downing a lot of water right before the start—aim to hydrate regularly. On race morning, have a few extra cups a couple of hours before the race so you don’t need to stop during the run.

Wear comfortable, proper clothing
Choose clothes made for running—they breathe, wick sweat, and keep you comfortable. Women should wear a supportive sports bra. Try out your race outfit on a training run to make sure everything feels right.

Get the right shoes
Running in the wrong shoes can cause pain and blisters. Get fitted for running shoes and wear them on a few runs before race day so they’re broken in.

Fuel your body
Eat well to support your training. On race day, have your last meal 2–3 hours before the start—something light with lean protein and whole carbs. Avoid heavy fats and lots of fiber right before running.

Enjoy it
It may feel hard at first, but progress makes it worthwhile. Running helps with fitness, stress relief, and meeting people who share your interests. Enjoy your first 5k and celebrate how far you’ve come.

This post is sponsored by Stasher. All opinions are my own.

I enjoy cooking, but I love any trick that saves time on meal prep. Over the years I’ve developed a simple weekly routine that makes cooking easier and more enjoyable. One of my favorite tools in the kitchen is Stasher. Stasher bags and bowls are reusable, food-grade silicone available in lots of colors and sizes. They’re great for storing, freezing, organizing, and even cooking—safe for the microwave, dishwasher, freezer, oven, and you can boil them too. I’ve tried many ways to use them and they’ve become a go-to. The leak-free Pinch-Loc® seal really keeps food fresh, so they’re perfect for snacks or kids’ lunches. And cleanup is easy—just toss them in the dishwasher.

10 Kitchen Uses for Stasher Bags to Save Time, Money, and the Planet

I also like that they’re a more eco-friendly swap for single-use plastic bags. Unfortunately, 91% of plastic isn’t recycled, and those plastics can take about 500 years to break down in oceans and landfills. One Stasher bag can replace about 260 single-use plastic bags a year, which helps cut waste and reduce cleanup needs. Over time they also save money because you stop buying disposable bags, wraps, and containers.

Here are some of my favorite ways to use Stashers in the kitchen to save time, money, and reduce waste.

10 Ways to Use Stashers in the Kitchen to Save Time, Money and the Planet

1. Smoothie Packs
If produce is getting overripe, freeze it instead of tossing it. Use sandwich-size Stasher bags to make individual smoothie packs—add the fruit and veggies you want, freeze, then dump into the blender with liquid when you’re ready. You can also freeze veggie scraps for stock (celery tops, onion skins, carrot ends). Quick tips:
– Cut produce into similar-sized pieces and freeze on a baking sheet; once frozen, move into a Stasher.
– Or put produce straight into the bag—pieces may stick, but the bags are flexible so you can bend them to separate.
– Lay packs flat in the freezer to save space.

2. Easy On-The-Go Meals
Packing your own lunch saves time and money, and it’s healthier. The 2-cup Stasher bowls are my favorite—they’re the perfect size for a to-go meal, can be warmed, and stand up well. I make summer shrimp quinoa bowls in bulk and store them sealed in the fridge for up to 4 days. The snack and sandwich bags are great for kids’ school snacks and are a much better alternative to disposable plastic bags.

3. Store Fresh Fruit & Vegetables
Fruit and veggies last longer when cleaned and stored properly. I rinse and cut berries as soon as I get them and store them in stand-up Stasher bags in the fridge. For broccoli and cauliflower, wash and dry well before cutting, squeeze out extra air, and seal. Having things visible and ready to use helps reduce waste.

4. Steam Vegetables
Stashers are safe for the microwave, oven, and boiling, so they’re handy for steaming. To microwave steam:
– Add about 1 tablespoon of water to the veggies.
– Seal the bag about 90% (leave a small gap for steam).
– Microwave for a few minutes until vegetables reach your desired tenderness.

5. Bulk Storage
Buying in bulk cuts packaging waste and saves money. I use Stasher bags and bowls to store bulk items and keep my pantry organized. The large 8-cup bowls work well for oats and grains. For nuts, the stand-up mid bags are great because they stand on their own and have a wide seal.

6. Portion Frozen Meals
Portion leftovers into single servings and freeze for quick meals. Soups are especially good—take out a serving and reheat in a pot of boiling water or in the microwave.

7. Freeze and Store Leftover Herbs
Don’t let herbs go bad—freeze them for later:
– Wash and dry herbs.
– Chop to the size you want.
– Place in ice cube trays (don’t overpack) and cover with olive oil.
– Freeze, then transfer the cubes to a Stasher bag (store up to 6 months).
– Add directly to hot dishes; if adding to cold dishes, thaw first.
Tip: Label the matte side of the bag with a chalk or dry-erase marker.

8. Farmers Market Purchases
Skip disposable produce bags at the market—bring a Stasher bag instead.

9. Rehydrate Stale Bread
You can bring hard bread back to life in the oven using a Stasher bag. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Wet the crust lightly, place the bread in the bag, seal it with a small crack to let steam escape, and bake on a pan for 6–8 minutes. Open and enjoy.

10. Make Popcorn
You can pop popcorn in the microwave with a Stasher bag:
– Use a stand-up bag, 1/2 cup popcorn kernels, 1/2 tablespoon olive oil, and salt/seasonings.
– Put kernels and oil in the bag, close but leave a small vent, and microwave on high for 2–3 minutes until popping slows.
– Carefully remove (it will be hot), open, add salt/seasonings, close, and shake to coat.

Beyond the kitchen, Stasher bags have countless uses and are an easy, sustainable swap to reduce plastic waste. For more ideas and sustainability tips, check out Stasher’s blog.

This post is sponsored by Burt’s Bees, but the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Spring always lifts my mood and prompts me to declutter, organize, and refresh different parts of my life. One of my favorite things to update is my makeup. I love swapping out old products for fresh spring shades and lightweight formulas.

Quick 5-Minute Natural Makeup for a Fresh Spring Look

On my last Walmart run I picked up some new Burt’s Bees makeup. I’ve long liked Burt’s Bees (I’ve written about other favorites before) because they focus on natural, skin-nourishing ingredients. Their products are free of phthalates, parabens, petrolatum, and SLS, and they’re Leaping Bunny certified—no animal testing.

They have a new line I’m really enjoying. The formulas are hydrating and creamy, and the shades feel fresh and wearable. I prefer a natural, less-is-more look, and these products are great for enhancing your features without looking heavy. I’ve been testing a few items and wanted to share a quick, five-minute clean-beauty routine that’s perfect for spring. It gives a dewy, everyday glow with just enough color and highlight.

All the Burt’s Bees items I’m talking about are packed with skin-loving ingredients to hydrate and nourish. My skin has changed over the years—hello, fine lines—and I often deal with dryness, so I was thrilled to try the new cream Color Nurture eyeshadow and cream blush. Cream products work really well for mature or dry skin: they apply smoothly, don’t cake, and don’t emphasize lines. Plus, they have a light, pleasant scent.

Burt’s Bees Color Nurture Cream Blush
I tried Guava Meringue (it comes in two other shades) and it’s fantastic. The formula is easy to use, blendable, and buildable, so you can get a subtle flush or a stronger pop of color. It sets nicely and feels moisturizing. I apply it with my fingers, dabbing on the apples of my cheeks and blending upward in circular motions, but a domed buff brush works well too.

Burt’s Bees Color Nurture Cream Eye Shadow
This cream eyeshadow comes in three shimmery nude shades and is simple to apply with your fingertips. It’s great for an all-over lid color and can be layered for more intensity. I also like using the Caramel Buttercream shade to highlight my cupid’s bow for a little extra lift.

Burt’s Bees Squeezy Tinted Balm
This is one of my top picks. The Squeezy Sweet Peach smells and tastes delicious, and the shade flatters many skin tones while giving a glossy finish. It contains responsibly sourced beeswax and cocoa butter to keep lips hydrated and shiny. I’ll definitely try the other colors and flavors.

Burt’s Bees All Aflutter Volumizing Mascara
This mascara is gentle enough for sensitive eyes. The lightweight formula applies smoothly without clumping, even with two or three coats, and it wears well through the day without much flaking.

You can find these new Burt’s Bees products at Walmart or on Walmart.com. They’re a lovely way to refresh your routine for a natural, fresh-faced warm-weather look.

This cute turkey veggie tray is perfect for Thanksgiving and fall! It’s quick to put together and always a crowd-pleaser.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and I can’t wait. It’s one of my favorite holidays—though, honestly, I’ll take any excuse to cook and celebrate. I’ve been planning our menu and adding lots of tasty snacks and appetizers for everyone.

Whimsical Turkey Veggie Platter

I love simple, playful appetizers like this turkey vegetable platter. I’m always trying to get my kids to eat more veggies, and sometimes dressing them up a bit is all it takes. It also makes a fun centerpiece for your Thanksgiving table. While everyone waits for the big meal, this is a great snack to keep people happy.

A few tips for making a turkey vegetable platter:
– Add color: Use lots of colorful veggies—the more, the better (and healthier). For easiest assembly, cut vegetables so they lie flat, but don’t skip chunkier items like cauliflower and broccoli.
– Get the kids involved: It’s simple enough that even the youngest helpers can join in.
– Switch up the dip: Use whatever dip you like. A few favorites are hummus (I love cilantro-jalapeño), Greek yogurt veggie dip, or French onion dip.
– Customize it: Add your family’s favorite vegetables and adapt to your diet.
– Prep ahead: Most of it can be prepped ahead to save time on Turkey Day.
– Use an oval platter: An oval platter gives you plenty of room for the dip and veggies.

Optional: Want fruit instead? Use fresh fruit and serve with yogurt fruit dip or brownie-batter hummus.

Turkey Vegetable Tray

To assemble:
1. Use a large oval platter. Place your dip in a small to medium bowl at the bottom of the platter.
2. Arrange the vegetables around the bowl, lining up contrasting colors as you build the turkey.

To make the turkey face:
– Cut off the bottom of a bell pepper and place that piece on the dip to form the face.
– Stick on two candy eyes (use a little dip to help them stick).
– For the beak, cut a baby carrot in half and notch one end to shape it. Put a slice of red pepper under the beak for the wattle.

Mindfulness is a lovely practice that helps bring attention to the present moment. For children, it’s especially helpful: it gives them tools to manage emotions, stay focused, grow empathy and compassion, and boost happiness. Below are some of my favorite books and resources that are great for introducing kids to mindfulness and encouraging regular practice.

14 Amazing Mindfulness Books and Resources for Kids

I’ve practiced mindfulness for several years, and 2021 was the year I dove deeper—expanding my own practice and completing mindfulness teacher training. I’m excited to share this wonderful practice with more people and show simple ways it can be woven into daily life.

Why should kids practice mindfulness?
Teaching mindfulness to young children builds a lifelong skill. Habits formed early tend to shape behavior later on. Mindfulness fosters kindness, empathy, compassion, acceptance, and calm. It works the prefrontal cortex—the brain area involved in focus and self-control. By exercising that part of the brain, mindfulness strengthens pathways related to attention, self-regulation, and good judgment.

Mindfulness can reduce stress and increase happiness for both children and adults. It teaches them to stay present without judgment or attachment, which is helpful as they move through life’s ups and downs. It also helps kids understand their thoughts and feelings better, so they can respond more calmly, communicate more clearly, listen better, and build stronger relationships over time.

How do children learn mindfulness?
One of the best ways children learn mindfulness is by watching you. Kids copy adults constantly, so modeling calm behavior and having your own mindfulness practice is key. I’ve shared many simple ways to bring mindfulness into everyday routines on Zulily’s blog—many of those ideas can be adapted for kids with a few tweaks.

Below are some of my favorite books, tools, and resources that are excellent for teaching mindfulness to children.

Exercise does wonders for your body, but skipping skin care before and after a workout can lead to breakouts, clogged pores, and irritation. The good news is there are easy steps you can take before, during, and after exercise to keep your skin looking as great as you feel. Spending just a few minutes to prep and care for your skin can make a big difference. Adding a few simple habits to your routine means you’ll always be ready to put your best face forward. Here are some no-fuss tips to add to your post-workout routine to keep your skin looking fabulous.

Effortless Guide to Flawless Post-Workout Skin

No-Sweat Guide to Flawless Post-Workout Skin

Remove Your Makeup
If you can, take off your makeup before you work out. Sweat plus makeup can create excess oil that leads to clogged pores and breakouts.

Hands Off
Try not to touch your face while exercising. Equipment, mats, and other surfaces can carry bacteria and dirt.

Pull Your Hair Back
Most people use styling products, and when you sweat those products can run down your face, neck, and back. Pulling your hair back and wearing a sweatband can help keep products and sweat off your skin.

Wash Your Face Right Away
Cleansing your face as soon as possible after a workout is key. It removes sweat, dirt, and oil that can clog pores and cause breakouts — and a cool splash of water feels amazing after a sweaty session. Use a gentle cleanser. I like Neutrogena Deep Clean Micellar Water because it removes grime and even stubborn waterproof mascara while gently purifying skin. I rinse my face with cool water to start, then use micellar water on cotton rounds to wipe away makeup, sweat, and dirt. My skin feels clean, soft, and healthier since I started using it.

Change Your Clothes
Showering right after a workout is ideal, but if that’s not possible, change out of sweaty clothes as soon as you can. Damp activewear can irritate sensitive skin and cause breakouts. If you can’t shower, wipe down with towelettes or a wet washcloth and put on breathable clothes.

Moisturize
Sweat doesn’t hydrate your skin. After cleansing, use a nourishing lotion to restore moisture. Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion is my go-to because it’s gentle, non-greasy, and leaves skin soft. It’s fragrance-free and noncomedogenic, so it helps replenish moisture without clogging pores or causing irritation. It’s been shown to improve dry skin in one day, with more noticeable results after two weeks.

Hydrate
You lose a lot of water during exercise, especially in hot yoga or outdoor runs. Drinking fluids after a workout helps your body and skin recover. Electrolyte tabs or drinks are a quick way to rehydrate and replace lost electrolytes. Hydralyte Orange Tabs are a great option — they treat dehydration with up to 75% less sugar and four times the electrolytes of leading sports drinks. Just drop two tabs into a glass of water. And remember to drink steadily before, during, and after exercise.
